Postpartum Doula- Caring for You as You Care for Yours

A postpartum doula is a trained professional who provides practical, emotional, and informational support to new parents and their families during the postpartum period. This period can be defined as the first few weeks or months after giving birth, during which the parents adjust to their new role as caregivers, and the newborn adapts to life outside the womb. The postpartum doula is usually hired by the family and can work for several weeks or even months after the birth.

The role of a postpartum doula varies depending on the needs of the family, but their main focus is to support the physical and emotional well-being of the new mother and the family as a whole. They can help with tasks such as breastfeeding, infant care (see Newborn Care Specialist), meal preparation, light housekeeping, and running errands. They also provide emotional support and encouragement to new parents, help them establish a routine, and provide guidance on the baby's development.
